ERM serves mining and metals, power, financial services, technology, media, and telecommunications, chemical, manufacturing and pharmaceutical, oil and gas, and other industries. The company’s clients include Evonik Industries AG, Cogentrix Energy Power Management LLC, Eramet, Trinseo, and Exxon Mobil Corporation among others.

As of 2020, the company staffed over 5,500 employees worldwide in 160 offices in over 40 countries covering 20,000 projects each year. In 2019, ERM acquired CSA Global and Contek Solutions LLC and in 2020, the firm acquired Critical Resource Strategy & Analysis Ltd, and M. J. Bradley & Associates LLC.

In 2021, KKR & Co. Inc. agreed to acquire a 60% majority stake in ERM Group, Inc. from OMERS Private Equity and Alberta Investment Management Corporation which values the company at USD 2.

ERM’s technical capabilities include assessment of acoustic emissions, mobile field laboratories, reference method stack sampling equipment, remote visual sensing, and optical imaging for leak detection and repair (LDAR) programs for assessing air quality; and biodiversity and ecosystem offerings. Other technical capabilities include audit, data analytics and visualization, due diligence, energy and climate change offerings, impact assessment, and remediation management among many others. During the financial year 2020, the company recorded a net revenue increase of 11%, and a trading profit increase of 1% while cash at hand on 31st March 2020 was USD 213 million. The firm recorded USD 792 million as net revenues.

Post the acquisition, ERM plans on expanding and accelerate its client impact and help implement the best business practices across its operations. The transaction represents capital targeting longer-term opportunities through KKR's Core Investments strategy.
