Based in Durham, UK, and founded in 2020 by Steve Willis, and Jerry Joynson, Cquestr8 Ltd is a non-profit research group formed as a commercial project from Herculean Climate Solutions that offers carbon sequestration solutions for difficult-to-decarbonize industries such as cement, lime, and steel manufacture. In April 2021, Cquestr8 Ltd raised USD 300,000 million in seed funding led by Counteract. Some of the firm’s partner organizations include the University of Nottingham, East 101, Counteract, Universiti Malaya, etc. The company uses natural mechanisms including increased mineral weathering to safely trap carbon dioxide emissions in oceans as stable ocean bicarbonate, increasing ocean total alkalinity and counteracting ocean acidification. The company intends to use the April 2021 funding for proof of concept development, ahead of customer engagement in 2022, as well as enable environmental science and reactor development.
