Based in California, US, and founded in 2012, Lyft, Inc., formerly known as Zimride Inc. provides a mobile transportation application that allows users to book and track shared rides, electric scooters, and public transportation online. The company was co-founded by Logan Green and John Zimmer and in 2013, it changed its name to Lyft. In June 2018, Lyft raised USD 600 million in Series I funding led by Fidelity Investments, with participation from Comcast Ventures, Light Street Capital Management, and Senator Investment Group. The series I funding valued the company at USD 15.1 billion post-money. In 2019, Lyft, Inc. became a publicly listed company on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol LYFT, and in 2021, the company’s self-driving unit was acquired by Toyota Motor Corp. As of December 2020, Lyft had 4,675 employees. Lyft, Inc. offers a mobile application that allows commuters to book and rent rides such as cars, bikes, and electronic scooters. The transportation solution enables users to manage rides, track the distance of the destination, book public transportation, and rent cars, bikes, and scooters. The company also offers Level 5, a self-driving system for cars. In 2020, Lyft, Inc. reported a revenue of USD 2.36 billion, compared to USD 3.6 billion in 2019. Following its acquisition by Toyota Motor Corp., the company plans to commercialize autonomous vehicle technology.
