Based in Canada, and founded in 1948 by Marcel and Lucille Wong and financial backer Mr. Wing, Wong Wing Foods, Inc. produces and distributes frozen Chinese dishes across Canada. The company first started with handmade egg rolls, fried rice and garlic ribs selling them at Steinberg’s supermarkets. Wong Wing Foods gained attention after introducing its products at Expo 67 in Montreal, Canada, and the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) in Toronto, Canada. In October 2002, Wong Wing Foods, Inc. became a division of McCain Foods (Canada). In February 2021, an investor group led by Champlain Financial Corporation and including Fondaction has acquired a majority stake in Wong Wing Foods in partnership with McCain Foods (Canada). The company specializes in Chinese food products such as soups, entrees, appetizers, rice, and noodles. Wong Wing Foods, Inc. generates revenue by producing and distributing its products in all major Canadian supermarkets across the country. Following the acquisition by an investor group led by Champlain Financial Corporation in February 2021, Wong Wing Foods, Inc. will be operating under a new frozen food platform called MLW Foods Inc. enabling expansion and growth into the North American market.
