Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo) is an asset manager which invests both in public and private investments, including private equity. As a private equity investor, the firm invests in third-party private equity funds and directly in assets alongside funds or within equity consortia. In 2009, AIMCo underwent a strategic change and decided to move away from investing and co-investing in funds to making more direct investments. The firm, however, still makes select investments in some private equity funds to access areas of the market in which it cannot invest directly.
