JGP Global Gestão de Recursos (JGP) is incorporated in December 1998 as an independent hedge fund manager and is based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It was founded by a group of investment professionals using a global macroeconomic, research-intensive investment process. For its first 10 years (1998-2008), the firm focused solely on multi-strategy, absolute return investment strategies. Its multi-strategy funds have broad mandates with no fixed guidelines for asset allocation. The investment approach is opportunistic with capital preservation as a core objective; targeting the most attractive risk-adjusted opportunities in fixed income, equity, FX, and commodity markets. JGP multi-strategy funds are managed by a group of portfolio managers, who split the total risk assigned for each multi-strategy fund and have investment autonomy. In 2008, JGP expanded the business towards the equity space by launching new strategies solely dedicated to this asset class. The notion was to keep the original group of portfolio managers intact, remaining 100% focused on the multi-strategy funds, while leveraging the existing JGP platform for the benefit of equity-dedicated portfolio managers.
