A round-up of last week’s global people moves at LPs and GPs

LPs

  • CalPERS has appointed Stephen Gilmore as its new Chief Investment Officer (CIO). Gilmore, who will take up the role in July, joins from New Zealand Superannuation Fund, where he is currently CIO. Full story here.

  • The Missouri Local Government Employees Retirement System (LAGERS) has selected Scott Day as its next CIO. Day, who takes on the role from May 1, was most recently Deputy CIO for the School and Institutional Trust Fund Office (SITFO) in Utah. He was previously a Managing Director at Goldman Sachs, where he served as an outsourced CIO of a Canadian pension fund.

  • UK pension scheme Nest has announced that it has appointed Ian Cornelius as Interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO) following the departure of Helen Dean. Cornelius was most recently Interim Group CEO at Skipton Building Society, where he was previously Commercial & Strategy Director for a decade. The appointment is expected to be for about 12 months while a permanent CEO is recruited and onboarded.

  • UK workplace pension scheme The People’s Pension has appointed Dr Sheila Doyle to serve on the Trustee Board. Doyle has more than three decades of experience in executive and board positions at organizations including Deloitte, BP, Royal Mail, IBM, and Deutsche Bank. She is also a non-executive director for NHS Supply Chain and London Ambulance Service.

  • Denver-based asset manager Versus Capital Advisors has announced the arrival of Robert Becker as Chief Investment Strategist. Becker joins from utility firm Eversource Energy. He previously spent 18 years at Cohen & Steers, where he was Co-Founder and Co-Head of its global listed infrastructure strategy and a portfolio manager.

GPs

  • Real estate investment firm Affinius Capital has named Emily Margolis as Managing Director for its Global Investors Group, based in Boston. Margolis joins from AEW Capital Management where she was Director of Investor Relations. She previously held capital raising and investor relations responsibilities for Colony Realty Partners.

  • New York-based private equity firm Avista Capital Partners has appointed Don Casey as a Strategic Executive. Casey was most recently CEO of dental technology and products manufacturer Dentsply Sirona.

  • Carlyle has announced that Masahiko Fukasawa has joined the firm in the newly created role of Head of Global Portfolio Solutions Japan. Fukasawa joins from Alix Partners in Tokyo, where he was a Senior Advisor. He previously spent nearly two decades at Kearney where he was a Partner and held several roles including Head of Japan.

  • New York-based investment manager Clarion Capital Partners has promoted David Ragins to President of Private Equity. Ragins joined the firm in 2006 having worked previously at Seaport Capital, Merrill Lynch’s M&A group, and Bank of America’s Leverage Finance Group.

  • Global alternative asset management firm EJF Capital has announced that John W. Murray and Derrick G. Preuss have joined the Arlington, VA-headquartered firm as Managing Directors. Murray joins from Arlington Asset Investment Corporation where he spent 22 years and was most recently a Senior Managing Director of Portfolio Management and the Chief Portfolio Manager. Preuss was previously a Partner at Winston Partners, where he spent nearly 13 years.

  • UK investment platform Hayfin Capital Management has appointed Michaela Campbell as a Managing Director in its Private Credit team, based in London. Campbell previously spent five years at BlackRock in the Risk and Quantitative Analytics team, most recently as Co-Head of Global Investment Risk for Private Credit and Private Equity. Before BlackRock, she spent more than a decade at GE Capital.

  • Real estate private equity firm Madison International Realty has named Yichao Mark, formerly Director of Strategic Investor Solutions at its New York headquarters, as Head of Asia, based in the firm’s newly opened Singapore office.

  • North America-focused private equity firm One Rock Capital Partners has added Jim Wiegmann to its team of Operating Partners. He was most recently CEO of One Rock portfolio company OLM Food Solutions. Wiegmann previously held executive roles at firms including Pro-Pet, Snack Alliance, and Musco Family Olive Company.

  • IT services-focused investment and advisory firm Tercera has appointed Garrett Blank as Partner. Blank was previously Principal at Boston-based private equity firm Abry Partners, before which he was an investment banking Analyst at Deutsche Bank.
